Dear AEU Members,
Your AEU Bargaining Committee met today for our fourth day of negotiations. Your bargaining team arrived at 8:00 AM to draft our counterproposal to CSEA’s Initial Proposal.
We began negotiations today at 1:15 PM. When the session started, CSEA presented their partial counterproposal to our initial proposal. The counterproposal addressed language for articles 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 21, 26, 28, and 32. CSEA stated that they are continuing to work on the remaining articles of our initial proposal. AEU then presented our counterproposal.
During our presentation of Article 9 Vacation, we reiterated our intent to increase the annual carryover of ten days to fifteen. At this point, CSEA pointed out that their proposal eliminated that carryover cap and that this provided more flexibility as the new vacation leave cap would be their annual accrual plus ten days. This language was not clear in the proposal from CSEA. CSEA said that they would continue to work on Article 9 to make their proposal clearer. AEU and CSEA agreed to merge proposals so that we could work off one document. The parties returned to caucus.
During this caucus, the AEU team worked on merging the proposal language. We also worked on drafting a counterproposal to CSEA Counterproposal #1 and #2 Article 9 Vacations. AEU also drafted a response to CSEA’s bargaining commentary on AEU Proposal Article 1.
The parties broke for the day and will return to the table tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM.
Attached to this message, you will find all the documents we reviewed today: (1) CSEA Counter Proposal #1, (2) AEU Counterproposal #1, (3) AEU response to CSEA bargaining commentary on AEU Proposal Article 1, (4) CSEA Counterproposal #2 Article 9 Vacations.
Your AEU Bargaining Committee looks forward to continuing negotiations with CSEA. We appreciate any feedback on this update and the attached information.
In Solidarity,
AEU Bargaining Team
