Dear AEU Members,
Your AEU Bargaining Committee met today for our first day of negotiations. We started negotiations at 9:58 AM and ended our first meeting at 10:06 AM. In the first session we passed our initial proposals for successor bargaining and our proposal for the newly created LRR/MESD position.
We went back in and discussed CSEA’s initial proposal, where they answered several questions for AEU. AEU also discussed our proposal for the LRR/MESD position and how the revisions were responsive to the bargaining survey results. At this time, we caucused so they could work on a counter for the LRR/MESD position and so AEU could draft a TA on the articles that weren’t opened by the parties.
We went back in provided CSEA with the TA for unopened articles and CSEA provided AEU with a counter to the LRR/MESD position. The counter proposal made some concessions to get the parties closer to an agreement, but we have not reached an agreement yet. We did not receive a counter proposal for our initial proposal and we anticipate receiving that on Wednesday at our second negotiations session.
Attached to this message, you will find all the documents we reviewed today: (1) AEU IP to CSEA, (2) CSEA IP to AEU, (3) AEU Proposal 1 for LRR/MESD Position, (4) CSEA Counterproposal 1 to AEU Proposal 1, and (5) TA on unopened articles. We are also providing the survey responses and the response to the RFI we sent for bargaining last week.
Your AEU Bargaining Committee looks forward to continuing negotiations with CSEA and we appreciate all the support we’ve received from the field today. Please continue to wear your red Tuesday and Thursday and take photos so we can show our solidarity!
